Trastevere has always been completely self-sufficient in terms of hospitals, schools, restaurants, bars, as well as over 40 churches to serve the community. Urban myth has it that until the 50s and 60s, many residents say they’d never even crossed the river because they had everything they needed in Trastevere.
During daytime Trastevere is reasonably quite, relaxed and has far less traffic than other parts of hectic Rome, it changes drastically by night when it becomes the beating heart of the roman nightlife with countless restaurants and bars; let’s take advantage of the day to stroll the narrow cobblestone streets learn legends and secrets of undergound tunnels and ancient pharmacy, admire peculiar churches, enjoy beautiful views and last but not least taste some traditional delicacies in local bakeries.
